Books
The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield: An author, Stephen explores what it means to be a professional creative. His concept of "the resistance" (the force that keeps you distracted and not doing the work that matters) really helped me to embrace my best work. The Artist's Journey by Stephen Pressfield: Another great work that compares and contrasts the path of the artist to the archetypal Hero's Journey. Great book to help understand an artistic career in perspective. |

Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss: The FBI's former top negotiator gives his take on how to negotiate by starting with the assumption that humans are irrational (in direct opposition to traditional thinking). By learning to negotiate through this book, one learns how to be a better listener and a better human.
Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss: Tim has interviewed the leaders and most skilled people in dozens of fields and has gained great insight into what it takes to be one of the top people in the field. This book hits the highlights from some of his favorite guests and is a great introduction to both Tim and his guests. If you find an entry you like, I would encourage you to listen to the full episode on Tim's podcast.
Master the Day by Alexander Heyne: Actually written to help people lose weight, Alex doesn't spend much time talking about weight loss. Instead, he discusses effective goal setting. The biggest lesson I took from it: don't focus on results, focus on setting up habits that get you results. Have goals, but use them to help you figure out what habits to create in order to achieve them.
The Way of the SEAL by Mark Divine: Mark is a former Navy SEAL. He takes his many years of tactical experience and distills it into a book fundamentally about goals. He expounds on something like a "complete warrior" mentality by talking about how one must be a master of one's body, mind, and spirit. He has many practical exercises, including visualization exercises and things to keep in mind when setting a goal. This book can act as a gateway into great mindfulness throughout one's life.
